Butterfly Themed Birthday Party

My middle child is FOUR years old! She had been counting down the days until her birthday for months and couldn’t wait to have a BUTTERFLY themed party! It was all her idea and she loved every minute of the celebration. We had soooo many friends at her party because she is our little social butterfly. It was the perfect theme for our Ivy girl.

If you’ve been around here for a while you know I am a big fan of birthdays and throwing parties for my kids. It is my favorite! I love going all out for parties, but the budget doesn’t allow for extravagant or expensive things. Most of the decorations I try to make myself or purchase from the dollar store. The same applies for party favors, as well. I was able to keep this party well under $100 and it turned out perfect for my little girl 🙂

Butterfly Party Invites

I always have the best luck finding cute party invites from Etsy. You just search the theme of the party and you are bound to find exactly what you are looking for. Most of the shop owners are pretty great about personalizing them and changing the format how you’d like it. This particular butterfly invite was under $10 which I then had printed at Costco in 5×7 prints. They make such cute memories to put in a scrapbook or memory box, too.

Butterfly Headbands

When the butterfly guests arrived, they each got to pick a headband. I found these at the Dollar Tree and they were perfect. I still can’t believe I found them for $1 each! Before you order anything online for a birthday party, be sure to check your local dollar store first. You can potentially save a lot of money that way.

Butterfly Wand Craft

The first activity we provided for the party guests was a butterfly wand craft. I found a pack of butterfly foam cutouts from Michaels where I applied my 40% off coupon to get them right around $5! I hot glued the foam cutouts to wooden rods along with a couple of ribbons. The girls chose their butterfly color and decorated them with foam sticker shapes. Of course we played freeze dance with our beautifully crafted wands right after!

Find the Butterfly Game

After our dance party we headed out to the backyard and looked for butterflies. I found some little butterfly ornaments in all different colors again from the Dollar Tree (this was seriously my lifesaver store for this party) and hid them in bushes, trees, and along the grass. I only had enough butterflies for each girl to find one so that kept the game a little more fair for everyone.

Butterfly “Telephone” Game

Another fun game we played was “telephone” where you start out with a word(s) and whisper it around the circle. You try to see if it ends up being the original phrase by the time it reaches the last person. This game was not originally planned, but the party was getting a little out of control with 14 little girls running around! This was the perfect quiet game and didn’t involve any tears; only laughter. I started the round with one simple word that got passed around the circle perfectly. Once I started passing around short phrases, it turned silly. The girls thought this game was so funny!

Butterfly Piñata

All the decorations for this Butterfly Themed Party were bright and colorful. Since it’s springtime and shortly after Easter, it was pretty easy finding colorful candy and prizes to go inside the butterfly pinata. I filled it with bouncy balls, bracelets, and butterfly rings all found from the Dollar Tree and Target dollar spot. Those prizes were fun for the kids to spot falling out of the piñata.

Making sure every last bit of candy and prizes gets picked up!

Butterfly (Cup)Cake

Butterfly Cake made out of cupcakes

Okay, this cake was so fun to create! Such a simple idea that looks way more impressive than it really was! I have a really cool cake decorating kit that allowed me to squeeze the icing in different designs pretty easily. I can’t do frosting bags or pipe frosting to save my life. These cupcakes were from a cake mix. I used various colors of cupcake liners that were leftover from other parties so it made it colorful and easy! Then I made one big batch of frosting and separated it into colors. The antennas and face were drawn with a black icing tube. Seriously, my favorite birthday cake creation yet!

The party guests loved being able to choose a piece from the butterfly to eat! We also had fruit platters shaped like butterflies that I failed to get a before picture of! Courtesy of my mom. I wasn’t going to do it since I ran out of time, but she pulled through and the fruit butterflies turned out adorable! I’m glad I was able to sneak a little bit of a healthy treat in there 😉

The party was a huge success! I was one exhausted mess afterwards but it was a blast. I was thrilled when she chose a Butterfly Themed Party. It was super easy and fun to throw together. I sure love my little butterfly girls!
