Favorite Children’s Books
January 31, 2019
Today I’m sharing some of our family’s favorite children’s books. I say family because my husband and I are just as attached to these stories as our children are! These books have produced many smiles, giggles, and desires to read each night before bed. We hope you love them as much as we do!
“Candace Center Stage” is a darling story about a girl who is nervous to go on stage for her first ever ballet recital. The illustrations and quotations used in this book are very cute.
“Llama Llama Red Pajama” is one of our kid’s favorite books of all time! They crack up so hard every time their dad reads it to them. (He uses hilarious voices while reading it). We’ve also added “Llama Llama Nighty Night” to our collection. So many adorable versions by Anna Dewdney.
One of my favorite books as a child was, “If You Give a Mouse a Cookie“. I always thought it was so funny and my kids do too! This is an easy read if your kids (and you!) are ready to crash but need a quick story before bedtime.
A good repetition book that my kids love to read along with us is “The Napping House“. It’s a story about how a grandma and her grandson are found underneath a bunch of animals piled high in bed until (spoiler alert!) a flea disturbs their slumber. This book’s rhythmic text is very enjoyable to kids and adults alike.
A beautiful message is found in the book, “The Wonderful Things You Will Be“. “I’ll love you, whoever you’ve grown up to be.” – Emily Winfield Martin. This book is so special and recites an important dialogue that all parents should have with their children. The illustrations are very sweet and heartfelt.
For all those animal lovers out there, “Polar Bear, Polar Bear, What Do You Hear?” is a fantastic book. Again, another book my husband has a lot of fun disguising his voice with, thus my kids love it! I love how whimsical each animal appears on the pages. Very colorful and captivating for kids.
The “Wee Little Chick” is a very timely book for spring! My 3 year has been obsessed with this book since she was 8 months old. We have had to tape so many pages back together because she got so excited reading this to herself as a baby. It is an adorable story with beautiful pictures. One of my favorite books to read to my girls. I am very close to being able to recite it by heart.
“The Pout-Pout Fish” is about…you guessed it…a fish who is pouty. He is a down-right depressed fish who thinks he’s incapable of smiling. All he does is spread “drearie-wearies”. There’s a little twist at the end and the Pout-Pout Fish discovers he has a way to spread “cheery-cheeries” all over instead! A cute book to read your grumpy child. He/she will be smiling by the end of it.
These are just some of our favorite books. We have collected so many great ones over the years and are always looking for more! Send some recommendations our way!
