Movie Star/Red Carpet Birthday Party
May 19, 2021
Welcome to HOLLYWOOD! Our house transformed into the Hollywood Walk of Fame last week for my daughter’s 6th birthday. She turned 6 on the 6th which means it was her “golden birthday”. We decorated with all things gold which worked out perfect for her movie star party theme.
One of my favorite things about being a mom is making my kids feel special on their birthdays. This girl wasn’t able to have a traditional birthday last year due to COVID so we made sure to go all out this year! She loves her friends so it was so fun seeing her so happy with everyone at her party.
The Decorations
The movie star party idea sprung from my daughter seeing her big sister have a movie night party. She wanted one too! An evening party wasn’t going to work out so we came up with the idea to do a movie star theme while still utilizing the red carpet and other decor we had already! This theme fit my girl perfectly. She loved feeling like a “star.”
The decorations were very inexpensive. It is really easy to find cheap gold decor at the dollar store and amazon. I’ve linked to some of the things I used as well as similar items. Be sure to always check the dollar store first before you shop online for party decorations!
If you have any plans to make a balloon garland in your future, I would 100% recommend this balloon pump. It saved me SO much time! In the past I’ve used a hand pump which takes forever and makes your arm so sore afterwards. Best purchase and contributes to a really fun and impressive party decoration! Balloon garlands look intimidating but I promise they are easy to assemble and can be inexpensive.
Party Activities
When the guests arrived, I took pictures of them with the birthday girl on my phone and printed them with my new Canon Ivy photo printer. That thing is way fun! I ordered some circle stickers to print on and they worked perfect for our wooden star craft. The girls colored their stars with washable markers and put their sticker on the front.

After making star crafts, I turned on some Disney sing-along videos and the girls had fun dancing and singing along! Songs included:
“We’re All in This Together” – High School Musical
“One Kiss” – Descendants
“Best Summer Ever” – Teen Beach 2
I wrote down all the guests’ names on gold stars that I found from the Dollar Tree ( similar linked here ) and the girls taped them on the red carpet. We then, of course, had to walk the red carpet! We turned on some model walk music and threw on some fancy boas. It was really cute! I split the girls up into groups and tried to get them to make their own movie. It turned into a karaoke session of sorts. My daughter got this microphone from her birthday so each group took turns singing their favorite songs. Movie Star/Pop Star…same thing right??
The “Star” Cake
I searched for a star pan but didn’t want to spend $20 on one so I made my own! I followed this tutorial and so glad I did! It was really easy. The hardest part was deciding how to decorate it. I hated my first attempt so I scraped off the sprinkles and frosting and tried again! Simple but sweet. The cake wouldn’t have been complete without these adorable star shaped candles. Such a fun find!
We ran out of time for dessert so I sent the girls home with their Hollywood Star cupcake. I used a funfetti cake mix, gold cupcake liners, black and gold sprinkles and topped it with a toothpick taped to a paper cut out gold star. Super easy and turned out cute!
Movie Star Party Favors
We sent the party guests home with some fun “star” themed loot!
Gold necklace
Star glasses
“Star” bursts
and a trophy 🙂 I found these the day of the party and ran to Target just for them!
These gold zipper bags from Hobby Lobby were such a good find by my mom. $2.99 for a pack of 20. What?!?! They were perfect!
It was such a fun party theme for our sweet and sassy 6 year old! Her friends were all dressed up so cute and had a great time with the birthday girl. I’m so glad we were able to throw her a party this year!!
