Top 10 Newborn Baby Must-Haves
September 14, 2017
So you’re having a baby! If this is your first and you’re creating your shopping list or baby registry…where do you start? I just gave birth to my third baby so I feel like I’ve got a good grasp on what baby items I couldn’t live without. I’ve compiled my top ten baby must-haves especially for those first few months with a new baby.
Auto Rock ‘n Play Sleeper
Having the Fisher Price Rock ‘n Play this time around for baby #3 has been a GAME CHANGER! My baby sleeps so well in it. It cradles her in making her feel safe and secure. It also keeps her on an incline which is great for reflux. I love that she is right next to my bed so I can get to her easily. I co-slept with my other 2 babies and didn’t ever get real good sleep because I was always worried about smothering them (now they have the Dockatot that I’ve heard rave reviews about for co-sleeping!). There are many options for the Rock ‘n Play. I would definitely recommend buying the auto version so it rocks on its own without always having to move it yourself. I love how it has two settings depending on how long you need it to rock and how it folds up for easy transportation room to room.
Cloth Diapers
Now I’m not recommending these for the main function they are intended for…I actually use these for burp cloths! They are super absorbent and great for babies who spit up a lot. I think they wash up fabulously and are a decent price for a pack of 10. You can find lots of cute burp cloths on the market, but honestly they don’t do much to protect you and your babies clothes, furniture and carpet if your baby has reflux like mine always did! Cloth diapers all the way!
MAM pacifiers
My babies have loved the MAM brand pacifiers. They have different sizes depending on the baby’s age and come in the most adorable colors. I like how they are small and minimalist. I am still able to attach a binkie clip no problem even though it doesn’t have a big handle on it.
Swaddle Blankets
There are sooo many swaddle blankets on the market today! I love how many different prints and styles you can come across. My favorite are the Aden + Anais bamboo swaddles. They are extra soft and wrap around baby a lot easier. Swaddling is a form of art that takes practice! It’s taken me until baby #3 to get it right. Our swaddle blankets always get used and washed a ton but stay in such great condition. Can I have one in my size please?!
Huggies Diapers
I’ve tried a few different brands of diapers but Huggies is still my top choice. You’re bound to have blow-outs on occasion no matter which diaper brand you choose, but I feel like Huggies is the best at keeping babies (and moms) free of a total blow-out disaster! Huggies Little Snugglers are so tiny and sweet with cute prints. In the first month with my baby I went through about 200 newborn sized diapers. 2 boxes (140 count) of the newborn Little Snugglers should be plenty and then your baby will probably be ready to move to the next size.
Jujube Diaper Bag
Oh the diaper bag! There are so many great (and expensive) diaper bags on the market. And some that are cute on the outside but just not as functional as you need a diaper bag to be on the inside. I researched a handful of bags and found that the JUJUBE B.F.F diaper bag was rated very high. It’s also on the pricier side and doesn’t go on sale very often but I’m telling you it’s worth it! I would definitely recommend the JUJUBE B.F.F for all of it’s pockets, zippers, and the fact that you can carry it as a backpack or use the messenger strap.
Tubby Todd Bath
If you’re looking for an all natural skin care product for your baby’s delicate skin then look no further than Tubby Todd. My first baby had really bad eczema that got worse with every bath she took. I finally realized I needed to switch up the soap I was using on her. Tubby Todd soap and lotion cleared it right up and I haven’t used anything else on my babies since! Not only is it safe to use but it also smells amazing. The dream cream and all over ointment is also great at targeting irritated skin like cradle cap, burns, and diaper rash. Two thumbs up for sure!
Graco Snugride carseat
Graco is a brand that has been around for a while so you know you can trust them when choosing a carseat! I have used the Graco Snugride Carseat for all three babies and have no complaints. It fastens and unfastens to the base very easily. I also have the Graco FastAction Fold Jogging Stroller and the two together are a dream for traveling or just quick shopping trips with baby. I have had to wash the fabric lining of the Snugride a few times and it is very easy to take off and put back on. There are lots of color options and designs to choose from!
Footed pajamas
You are going to need (and want) a lot of cute outfits for baby, but let’s face it, she’s going to outgrow it all very quickly so you’ll want to make wise choices with clothing that makes sense. I’m all for comfort with my babies so the footed pajamas are a favorite. I used them in the summer with my newborn too because we were mostly inside in the air conditioning. And be sure you find one-pieces that have a zipper instead of buttons because that will make your 2:00 am diaper changes in the dark so much easier!!!
Dohm Sound Machine
I really debated buying the Dohm Sound Machine but seriously it is as amazing as the reviews say. You’re paying more for this product than others but it will last for the long haul. I used the Homedics SoundSpa for a few years but it suddenly stopped working so I gave the Dohm a try and I’m very happy with it. It has one sound but it’s not an obnoxious static sound. It’s very soothing and great at masking outdoor or loud toddler noises. You can manually adjust how soft or how loud you need the sound machine to be.
There are so many baby products out there but you really you just need the basics in the beginning! Every baby is different so it’s hard to know what you can or cannot live without. Start small and do your research! But of course, the most important thing a baby needs is love from their mama.
