DIY Family Pictures and Christmas Card

If mom ain’t happy ain’t nobody happy. And mom wants annual family pictures!

Family pictures can be a stressful occasion. This year I decided to go the easier route by snapping a photo from inside our home with my dslr camera and a tripod! I went through everyone’s closets to find red, white, and black attire. I didn’t have to buy hardly anything new. Also, I took the picture on a Sunday before church so everyone needed to get dressed up anyway. It was the least stressful photoshoot our family has ever had and it went super quick!

Tips for taking good family pictures yourself!

  • Choose either a place in your home that is well-lit by natural light, or outdoors right before dusk
  • Use a high quality camera with a timer propped on a tripod
  • Play with the ISO, aperture, and shutter speed so you get a crisp, clear, and bright photo that you won’t have to edit too much in photoshop
  • Edit in photoshop or online with picmonkey to take out blemishes, spots on clothes (hello messy toddlers) and lipstick on teeth (yep had to do that one!)
  • Have fun with it and take some fun candid shots!

Affordable Christmas Cards

Ordering Christmas cards can get very $$$. I have found that Costco has some great, affordable options that are still really nice! They are printed on lighter weight paper, but you get a lot more for your money. You can also upload your own design and get a double-sided card, which I love! Go ahead and type up the highlights of your year and place the photos directly where you want them by using illustrator or photoshop to create your own unique card. I am not a graphics designer by any means but I know the basics and came up with a fun look!

The hardest part of family pictures for me is deciding what everyone is going to wear. Below I’ve found some ideas that are not only cute for holiday themed pictures, but also for all of those holiday parties coming up! And all of these are currently 50% off!
