House Tour
September 27, 2018
We’ve lived in our house for about a year and a half and still feel so grateful for it. I’ve been planning on writing up this post for a while now but have been putting it off because I still feel like I have empty walls and unfinished decorating to do. That’ll come! I do, however, want to capture what our home looks like now because I think it’s fun to look back on years later, especially for our kids. I want them to remember what it looks like at this stage of our lives —covered in toys and all things pink (except I did clean up A TON before snapping these pictures. Maybe I should do a ‘real-life’ home tour next 😉 ) Here is a little tour of each room in our house along with a few links to see where I got some of my most favorite items.
Entry
When your first walk into our home, you get to see my favorite design choice, our black and white stair rail. During the painting process, the construction workers messed up with taping, so it’s definitely not perfect, but I still love it. You will most definitely find family pictures in my home, too. I ordered a large family picture when our youngest was born and it is so special to me. White and gray is a theme throughout our home. I love how clean and simple it is. I got my 24″ by 36″ frame from Michaels. My entry table was a lucky find from T.J. Maxx.
Family Room
Next up is our family room. I love so many things about this room. My favorite feature is of course our built-ins that we had custom made to fit this space. I was so worried how it would turn out having a corner fireplace alongside built-ins, but it is my favorite risk we took on building our house! The cabinetry shop had never done one like it before so I had no pictures to go off of. It came together just as I had imagined. We purchased our couch from Downeast Home years ago when we were first married. It is the comfiest couch ever. I also love how we can rearrange it however we want and take out seats if necessary. We have finally settled on the “L” position it is in now and I love how it keeps the room open and inviting. In between our family room and kitchen is the There’s no place like home magnetic wall art. I print off 4×6″ black and white photos for it. I reeeeeally love it.
Kitchen
The kitchen is the heart of the home. I wanted ours to be bright, happy, and spacious because I know we spend a lot of time in it! I also spend a lot of time cleaning it so I wanted it to look amazing to start with so I’d have more fun keeping it tidy. Our kitchen is very functional and there isn’t one thing I would change about the layout. My husband’s favorite feature is our hidden pantry door. Our kids think it’s the greatest too!
Master Bedroom
Again, clean and white decorations! Just how I like it! I’ve always wanted a classic, luxury hotel style bedroom. Our bed is the comfiest bed ever. We’ve finally worked out way up to a King size bed. When we were first married we slept on a full size, then a queen and now a King. Won’t ever go back! We have a Purple mattress and have only good things to say about it. We got their stretchy sheets as well. They took some getting used to, but now any other type of sheets feel scratchy and uncomfortable. I love having our each of our girl’s newborn pictures on the wall. It took some major convincing to get my husband on board, but I think he secretly loves it.
Our master bathroom is another sanctuary in our home thanks to our jetted tub. It is my favorite place to end a busy and stressful day. My husband and I love having separate vanities. In our first 5 years of marriage, we shared a sink and although we have funny memories of us brushing our teeth at the same time, I’m grateful to not have to share now.
Upstairs
The main reason why we wanted a 2 story home for our growing family was to have an extra “play room” upstairs to hide all of the toys and messes. Our play room is always a mess so it works out great — out of sight, out of mind! We have our computer in one corner, my “office” aka sewing table for my Curtsy Cute business in another corner, and the girls have free reign everywhere else. At some point we will put a couch upstairs, but for now we love having the room open and free to play/dance in.
Girls Rooms
Layla loves dance and all things pink. Her room fits her personality perfectly! I got most of the items from T.J. Maxx including her bedding set and ballerina bunny. She is my girl who is a little more cautious so I was excited to find the barnwood “be brave” sign from Michaels. A few of her decorations were pieces I had in my room growing up so it’s very sweet to see them displayed in her room now.
My second oldest daughter, Ivy, is my colorful child. She is sweet and spicy, but still a girly-girl at heart. My favorite touch to her room is the ivy vine hanging on the wall. She has soft touches of greenery and mint in her room. The combination of peach, mint and white is so sweet. Her bedding is from Target, sheets T.J. Maxx ( I love shopping there obviously) and dresser from Walmart. All the dressers I’ve purchased for my girls were between $100-200. Cheap but have held up good so far!
Last but not least is baby Havyn’s room. I go to extreme measures to put together a cute nursery while pregnant. My husband just rolls his eyes at me, but it is part of the nesting process, I tell him! I sewed her crib sheet and bumper pad. I’ve done that with all of my kids and I have a lot of fun picking out colors and piecing it all together. I really wanted one room in my house to have gold decorations. I decided to do gold, gray and pink for her room. I could not find a gray and gold dresser that fit my budget so I ordered this gray and white one from Walmart and found my own gold hardware to replace it with. It doesn’t cover up the holes from the other handles, but it still works! I smile every time I walk into her room.
That’s our home!
Again, we feel so grateful to live in a beautiful home and such a wonderful neighborhood. We don’t plan on leaving anytime soon and are excited to add things little by little to continue to make it warm and cozy. I want my kids to grow up in a home with wonderful memories and traditions, that is what is most important. It doesn’t matter how big, small, new, old, expensive or cheap….home is where your heart and family is!
