Our Newly Remodeled Reading Corner
June 3, 2019
Adding new features to your home to make it fit the needs of your growing family is so fun, am I right?! I have been wanting a designated reading corner in our house since we moved in 2 years ago and it finally happened! Having an organized reading corner vs a messy seamstress workplace is way better IMO. Just check out the before picture!
This picture was taken on a good day when all of my bows and supplies for Curtsy Cute were tidy and put away. Even still, what an eye sore! I hated seeing clutter on my folding table and ironing board every day. Definitely doesn’t belong in a playroom!!! I’m just glad my kids never got ahold of my sewing scissors eek!
Prior to putting together this space I had seen beautiful Pinterest photos of books organized perfectly on shelves with a fancy rug and pouf to sit on. I always wanted to create a version of that for my own home. Before our reading corner existed, all of our books were split between our 3 kids in each of their closets. They were stacked in a way you couldn’t really see which books were which. NOW, the books are way easier to find and the kids just love hanging out, literally, in this special place in our home. Reading is suddenly way more fun!
Creating our Reading Corner
The first item we purchased was this Hammock Chair. You just can’t beat the price and it is sooo cute! We chose the white color and couldn’t be happier with it. Unfortunately it does not come with the hardware needed to hang it. Thus, we ended up spending closer to $85 to get it hung right. We found this Rotater Swing Hanger that works beautifully and is sure to hold when drilled into a stud. The swivel feature is a must if you plan on hanging this from 1 point vs 2, which is also possible! We used about 20 inches of chain for our 8 ft ceiling along with Caribiners that can hold up to 385 pounds. If you ever need to raise the swing up or down these snap hooks make that possible! I’d like to take the credit for this but my husband figured it all out and hung it perfectly 🙂
The bookshelves we hung are from Ikea and they are awesome! They measure 45″ and drilled into our studs seamlessly. They aren’t going anywhere! We can fit so many books on this shelf. Priced at $12.99 a piece to give our books a cute new home…AMAZING! Once they were up, our girls were SO excited to organize their books along the ledges.
Our family is very excited about this new reading corner in our home. We plan on spending lots of time in this comfy swing chair. It’s the perfect addition to our home. All for a great price!!
