Cheap Date Ideas
May 2, 2019
If you remember my goals for the year in my Hello 2019 post, you’ll recall that this year is all about ME! So selfish, I know, but it has been such a refreshing year for myself and for my marriage already! Our goal as a couple for 2019 was to also be selfish together and focus more on our relationship. He and I take priority: not our kids, not our bills, not any outside influence can tear us down. One thing that has really helped our marriage is to date each other often. That doesn’t mean we have to spend a lot of money to do so. We get to be really creative with our date nights especially since we have young kids and can’t always get a babysitter. I think our date nights at home are some of the most enjoyable. It’s so fun having a built in best friend.
I thought it would be fun today to share some of our favorite cheap date ideas. We are on a tight budget like most of you readers, but I promise these dates are way more fun than any other fancy night out on the town $$$
Cheap Date Ideas
Hiking
Hiking with my husband has quickly become one of my favorite dates. We recently climbed to the top of Angels Landing in Zion National Park. It was incredible! While we love hiking and adventuring with our kids, it’s fun every once in a while to go without them and pick up the pace a bit. Nothing better than getting some fresh air, exercise and quality time with your partner!
Redbox and Take-out
There is nothing better than dinner and a movie from your own comfy couch. Actually the only thing better is skipping the money on take-out and indulging in a bowl of ice-cream and a movie instead! We love renting movies from Redbox. Occasionally we go to a movie in theaters and easily drop $20 on a really crappy movie. It’s way better to take a risk on a crappy movie for just around $1. It’s also more fun cuddling underneath a blanket on the couch anyway. This is seriously our favorite and most reoccurring date night ever since we were dating.
Star Gaze and Make-out
Okay, you know I had to rhyme “take-out” with “make-out” ha! We all know a night lying underneath the stars leads to that anyway! The other night after putting our kids to bed we headed out to the trampoline and had such a good conversation looking up at the stars. It was so quiet and peaceful. Spring and summer weather gives a lot more creative options for date nights outdoors. We will definitely be doing this one again soon! Next time we plan to take the top off of the jeep, go on a drive and star gaze out in the middle of nowhere…
Downtown Scooter Ride
This is one of our new favorite dates, ever! Last weekend we rented scooters from Spin and rode around downtown. It was the most fun we’ve had in a long long time. These scooters get up to 12 mph and we were on them for about an hour so we got our way around town pretty fast! It was fun taking a mid-stop at the frozen yogurt shop. I think we spent a total of $15 on this date. Such a blast!
Game Night
We love getting together with our friends to play games. We like playing games with just the 2 of us too! Card games, Catan or Jenga are our favorites with just us. Exploding Kittens and Cover Your Assets are our favorites with friends. I don’t think we’ve ever laughed harder than at game nights with our friends. Another really fun game with a group of couples is Quiplash. It can get pretty inappropriate fast, but definitely brings lots of laughs!
Marriage is not easy, so it’s important to always date each other as often as you can. I have loved focusing more on our marriage this year. My husband is my best friend. I couldn’t imagine life without him. Time alone with him is my favorite. We’ve got a big trip coming up for our anniversary this summer that I can’t wait to share with you! The first solo trip we will take since having kids. It’s been a long time coming and I am ecstatic.
